Suspected cultists kill man in P-Harcourt

PORT HARCOURT suspected cultists in Marine Base reportedly killed a youth in the early hours of yesterday. Sources in the area who narrated the incident to Vanguard said the assailants numbering over ten stormed the deceased’s residence around 2am.
They reportedly dragged him outside his room that night and pumped several bullets into his head. He gave up the ghost on the spot. They later took time to inspect the corpse to be sure that he was dead before shooting sporadically into the air to wade off any attack.
It was not known at press time why the man was murdered. But sources said it may not be unconnected to cult clashes for supremacy. It is feared that the deceased was a member of a rival group.
When Vanguard called the state Police PRO, Mrs. Ireju Barasua, she confirmed the killing but ruled out militants.
Meanwhile, on Sunday night, residents around Ojoto area of the state capital scampered for safety as gun toting youths took over the street shooting indiscriminately. No life was reported lost but sources said the whole incident was still linked to the problem of gangsters in the state.
Those who spoke with Vanguard said there was need for the government to do something serious to address the problem, particularly with election around the corner.
