NOT YET IN THE PRESS:- Intensive Gunfight in Trans Amadi Near Slaughter Junction 25/26 APR 06
For almost 2 hours from around 23:30hrs on 25 Apr the police engaged robbers who attacked the Oceanic Bank in an intensive gun battle. It was apparent from the noise that automatic weapons were used and ammunition was not in short supply. Initial report indicate the robbers took advantage of high water and brought a fast boat up the nearby creek (near Slaughter Junction) and departed the same way after retreating under (& while exchanging) fire. Some reports suggest explosives or grenades may have been used by the robbers. It is not known if the robbers succeeded in stealing anything from the bank.
Unconfirmed reports indicate there were fatalities, numbers or who not known at this time. A Police vehicle was seen being towed from the scene this morning with at least six bullet holes in its windscreen.
Road traffic this morning is not impacted by this incident �… Its just its usual mayhem & go-slow!
