Late yesterday afternoon reports were received that an armed group had invaded ExxonMobil QIT, Eket and rampaged through the premises. There are reports of weapons having been discharged by them and of people being beaten. There are no reports on nature of casualties. There has been recent history of community issues and pressure from a group seeking compensation.
Later in the evening further reports indicate that the Navy had responded and there had been exchange of gunfire with claims of at least one fatal casualty among the attackers.
