Rivers Guber Race – Militants Insist On Dokubo-Asari

PosterS of detained leader of Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujihad Dokubo Asari seeking to succeed Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State in next year’s elections are adorning strategic places in Port Harcourt, the state capital.Though Dokubo-Asari does not believe in the present Nigerian state, residents of Port Harcourt were surprised to see the posters of the NDPVF boss adorn walls and other public and strategic places in the state capital.

The pasting of the posters, which coincided with a two-day working visit by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Ahmadu Ali, was believed to have been done by young men of Kalabari stock on Monday.Some members of the public at Garrison Junction and the Isaac Boro Park area scrambled for copies of the posters for keep while others who could not get one were seen gleefully admiring the posters which are of three different types.

One of the posters which has Dokubo-Asari picture in a black T-shirt with a picture of Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, with a black beret with a golden star reads “The White Revolution 2007″ Peoples Salvation Front Support Alh. Mujihad Dokubo-Asari for Governor of Rivers State”

Another poster with Dokubo-Asari in a white T-shirt and a black beret with a golden star reads “Rivers People, Your Dream for Rivers State is my passion. This is your chance! You can make it Happen! Vote Alhaji Mujihad Dokubo-Asari for Governor Rivers State”When contacted spokesman for NDPVF, Mr. Onegiya Erekosima said he was not aware of the development and the source of the posters.

The wife of the detained NDPVF leader, Alhaja Mujihadat Dokubo-Asari said in a telephone interview “for now I don’t really know,” when Daily Champion asked her about her husband’s political ambition.

Alhaja Dokubo-Asari said that for weeks now she has not seen her husband but pointed out that the NDPVF has a political wing known as the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front; and the group has campaign managers and co-ordinators.

She confessed that she has not seen the posters but was only informed by people who called her to find out those behind it “I only heard and have not gone out to see.”When our correspondent visited the NDPVF office at number 13 Agudama Street, D Line, he was referred to another building within the premises which serves as the campaign headquarters.

Mr Hope Rex Lawson introduced himself as a Co-ordinator of Peoples Salvation Front, a political wing of NDPVF and some of the posters labeled according to the local government areas in the state were seen while some were displayed on doors.

Lawson stated that the Peoples Progressive Alliance has decided to give it gubernatorial ticket for 2007 in Rivers State to Dokubo-Asari. He refused to answer further questions and claimed to be tired and requested our correspondent to come another day.
