Security tightened at all places of worship in Nigeria

Nigeria’s police chief has instructed all state command commissioners to tighten security at all mosques, churches and other worship centres across the country.

This follows the recent spate of suicide bomb attacks that have targeted places of worship.

Several states in Northern Nigeria have been hit with bomb explosions which have resulted in the loss of over 80 lives since Saturday.

Boko Haram has carefully chosen their targets to include churches and mosques, unlike in the past where government and educational institutions were the prime hit of the terrorists.

The Nigerian Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase has directed that adequate security has to be provided for places where Muslims break their fast in the evenings during the month of Ramadan.

Similarly, a ban has been placed on street hawking and all sorts of trading on roads and highways in Nigeria’s capital Abuja, especially at intersections, traffic lights and traffics hold ups.

This forms part of an extra layer of security measures to protect innocent people from the suicide attacks.
