Dare-devil robbers took their audacity to the extreme in Katsina where they invaded the state�s police command headquarters and made away with N1 million cash.
The hoodlums, who defied the presence of armed policemen within the office complex found their way into the command�s pay office by breaking its roof to make away with their loot.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan-azumi Doma, who confirmed the robbery decried as �constructive stealing.�
The police commissioner, who said there was no way an outsider could have perpetrated the ugly act undetected, said the account staff of the command were the prime suspects.
Doma also warned that the police would not hesitate in exposing and prosecuting the culprits.
The police boss, however, assured the public that the police would continue to protect the lives and property of all.
In a related development, a Mobile Police Corporal, Salisu Isah, has been found dead in an open concrete well beside the mobile police base in the state capital about two days after his death.
The state commissioner of police, who also confirmed the incident said two of the three colleagues of the deceased, who refused to report the death or disappearance of the corporal have been clamped into detention while the third had bolted away from the police base.
He assured that efforts were in progress to apprehend the fleeing cop, saying all suspects in the case would be arraigned in court after investigations.
Meanwhile, the police are at a loss over the demise of a 25 year old man, Surajo Mohammed, in detention at Yar-Goje police out post in Kankara division, over the theft of a bottle of palm oil worth less than N200.
The man reportedly died as a result of the severe injuries inflicted on him by a police sergeant identified as Umar Sani, who handled the matter.
Confirming the death of the accused, the state Commissioner, Mr. Doma, said the police sergeant, who is now in detention, has been helping investigations into the matter, assuring that he would be charged to court soon.
Narrating the incident, the commissioner said Surajo Mohammed was said to have stolen one bottle of palm oil at the Yar-Goje market. He was arrested in the market, and handed over to the police sergeant for further investigation.
According to the police boss, the accused died as the detective was trying to obtain more information from him through the use of torture.
