Robbers attack judge, kill security guard

A gang of armed robbers at about 3am, on Thursday, attacked the Minna residence of a Nigerian High Court judge, Justice Christopher Auta, killing one of his security men.

Our correspondent gathered that the robbers numbering about six, gained entry into the house by jumping the fence.

The security who was shot, it was learnt, drew the ire of the armed robbers for refusing to open the front door into the house as demanded by the robbers.

He was shot several times and was said to have died from the gunshot injuries. His remains have been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Minna.

The robbers later forcefully gained entry into the house, dragged the judge from his room to the sitting room where they demanded for money from him.

Auta, who is a new judge at the Bussa High Court, described the experience as shocking and harrowing.

He said, I have never experienced such before. I told them that I did not have money with me and they requested for my car key, which I gave to them. But they later from outside the house threw the key into my sitting room.

He disclosed that the robbers made away with about N10, 000 and three different handsets belonging to the members of the household.

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Mr. Ernest Ibhaze, in an interview with our correspondent in Minna, confirmed the incident.

He, however, declined further comment on it.
