Rivers, home of entertainment in Nigeria

Rivers State, the treasure base of Nigeria has been described as the home of entertainment and relaxation in Nigeria as well as the country�s symbol of unity and progress.

The national President of Mirror Productions Network, Comrade Eugene Chinwo who stated this in an interview with the Entertainment Desk in Port Harcourt recently, stressed that the conducive business environment in the state has led to the influx of people from all the nooks and crannies of the country to the state.

He also stated that the state has contributed immensely to the growth of the entertainment industry in Nigeria, particularly the Movies and the Music sector as most of the top Nollywoods and popular musicians are either indigenes of the state or were trained in the state.

Comrade Chinwo stressed that though the Nigerian movie industry a.k.a. Nollywood has recorded various achievements which has made Nigeria to be rated The Third movie producing country in the world after Nollywood of America and Bollywood of India.

He however, noted that there are certain aspects of the movies that should be discouraged such as fetish and pornographic movies as they do not portray the country in good light.

The entertainment guru also contended that such movies have negative effects on children, adding that children love to practice what they see.

He therefore, called on movie producers to produce films that are tailored towards achieving a greater tomorrow stressing that the movie practitioners must partner with government to produce good films that will promote the image of the country and not to mare it.

On the music industry he said that music is the cure to various ailments as well as bordom. According to him any person who does not appreciate music is as good as dead, adding that it was against this backdrop that Shakespeare said if music be the food of live play on.

Comrade Chinwo also maintained that Rivers State has produced a lot of musicians such as Daniel Wilson, Mama Gee, and late high life King, Rex Lawson among others. He condemned the growing rate of piracy in the music industry and urged the regulatory authorities to tackle the problem in order to restore sanity to the industry and allow artistes to enjoy the fruits of their labours which they have been robbed of by the pirates.

The national president of Mirror Network disclosed that his outfit is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) which paramount aim is capacity building, organising workshops, seminars, public lectures, academic visits to schools and communities, quizzes and debates as well as production of academic films with the aim of encouraging youths to eschew restiveness and violence among others.

He said his organisation has produced series of films, such as �Duel of the Shrine�, the Incorruptible Judge and packaged various science subjects for students on films.

The Rivers State born entertainment expert and business executive said since the inception of his organisation. They have been touring round Nigeria and other African countries, but now they have decided to come back home to contribute in sanitising the entrainment industry and to promote academic excellence in the state among others.
