Protesters descend on Shell crude station in Nigeria

Hundreds of protesters have descended on a Shell crude oil flow station in the Niger Delta, a news report said.

The protesters demanded jobs and infrastructure development and an end to pollution in the area, a witness told Reuters.

Soldiers and security guards did not disperse the crowd as they entered the Belema Flow Station in Rivers State, the report said.

The station feeds oil into Shell’s Bonny export terminal.

The Niger Delta has been beset by attacks from militants in recent times.

They accuse oil companies of not sufficiently reinvesting in the impoverished region.
