Police nab six suspected robbers, cultists in Rivers

POLICE in Rivers State say they have arrested six members of a deadly group allegedly behind major robberies in the state.
Refusing to disclose their names, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Adetuyi who briefed newsmen on the development yesterday in Port Harcourt added that eight suspected cultists were also arrested in Bodo where they had allegedly gone for initiation. He explained that fresh initiation marks were seen on their bodies.

Parading arms and ammunitions like guns, knives etc and sizeable quantity of cannabis recovered during the separate arrest, the police boss said his men also recovered two vehicles from some robbers who raided a shop along Elekahia

The Commissioner said the success recorded by his command so far owed largely to support from the public. He solicited more cooperation from them in the fight to rid the state of crime. According to him, security was a shared responsibility.

The Police boss also called on the people to be more conscious of their environment as the yuletide season draws near. We are moving towards the Xmas, people should be more conscious of their security. People should make good use of the facilities offered by banks to move money from one end to the other. It is a risk moving huge sum in cash this time

Fielding question on Police road blocks that spring up only in the evening on virtually all the roads in Port Harcourt, the Police boss said the people should differentiate between road block and Police presence on the streets What we have are observation points. They are measures in place to check crime. Though there could be some abuses but we must not throw the water and the baby away. We need police presence. Wont you reverse if you drive from here to Ahoada and you dont see police on the way, he queried.
