Odili not indicted

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, has not been indicted by the agency.

The commission, in a press statement, signed by the head of its Media and Publicity, Osita Nwajah, also warned “against subtle and unvarnished attempts by rival power contenders to make political capital of the commissions on-going investigations in Rivers and other states of the federation.”

Stressing that its inquiries in Rivers and other states are routine, the EFCC further warned that “the actions of the commission should not be misconstrued as lending support to any of the gladiators in the current political fray.”

The agency also dismissed as untrue, reports that the account of the director general of the Odili campaign organization, High Chief Alegho Dokpesi, has been frozen by the EFCC as a consequence of the investigation activities of the commission in Rivers State.

It insisted that, “no account of Chief Dokpesi has been frozen by the commission in relation to any investigation by EFCC.” Officials of the EFCC had recently invited some officials of the state for routine questioning an invitation which was honoured by the officials involved.

Following this invitation, the rumour mill had swung into action, making allegations that spokespersons for the Rivers State government have since dismissed as spurious and machinations of those opposed to the presidential aspiration of Gov. Odili and who have become uncomfortable with his rising political profile and his unassailable position as the man to beat for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.
