Nigerian press awash with militants attack on Chevron’s oil platform

The attack on the Chevron’s calve platform offshore oil facility in Escravos a new Niger Delta militant group led many Nigerian newspapers on Friday.This Day reported that the Militants in the Niger Delta on Wednesday night attacked Chevron’s valve platform, an offshore oil facility located near Escravos in Abiteye, Warri South West Local Government of Delta State, forcing the company to shut in crude oil.

The newspaper also captured that troops of 223 Battalion, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army have averted another attack on Dansadau town of Zamfara State by suspected cattle rustlers and armed bandits, killing 18 of them in the process.

Guardian reported that militants in the Niger Delta on Thursday blew up the Chevron Valve Platform located on the high sea near Escravos in Warri, Delta State in a renewed attack on oil installations in the country.

It said also that a former senator, Chris Anyanwu and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Michael Ahamba, have been interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over their alleged involvement in the disbursement of $115 million by Fidelity Bank on the instruction of erstwhile Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The Punch said the government on Thursday ruled out the possibility of providing bailout funds for state governments to meet their financial obligations, including the payment of salaries of workers.

Vanguard said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, has ordered the military trial of two Major Generals of the Nigerian Army for what military sources said were offences contrary to service discipline.

National Mirror reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed frustration over the inability of Nigeria to repatriate stolen funds stashed abroad by corrupt politicians and government officials.

The President specifically urged the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, UNODC, to facilitate faster recovery of the money.
