Nigeria places $10,000 reward on fleeing Boko Haram commander

Nigeria has placed $10,000 reward for information on the whereabouts of runaway Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, just as President Muhammadu Buhari commits to end the insurgency.

Brig–Gen. Sani Usman, the Director of Army Public Relations, who announced the reward on Thursday, said that Shekau, who has posted series of video in recent times, was on the run as his hideout, Camp Zairo, in Sambisa forest had been seized by the army and many of his fighters captured.

Boko Haram insurgency has claimed more than 25,000 lives since 2009 when the jihadists hit northeast states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

About three million Nigerians have been displaced and are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
