NATIONAL CENSUS 2006

The Nationwide Census will take place during period 21-25 March 2006. Whilst there are lots of rumours making the rounds about what restrictions will apply; other than the dates of the Census nothing has been issued officially. We are making best efforts to secure accurate information.

For planning purposes we suggest that journeys to Nigeria are postponed during the Census, it may be possible for local journeys to be carried out between certain times of day but these times are yet to be formally published by the Authorities and are not expected before 14 March. That said, current rumours suggest that the Lagos curfew will be 0800 hrs 1600 hrs each day.

Contacts at Virgin Nigeria inform us that they will be operating the 1645 hrs flight to PHC, 1700 hrs to Accra, 150 hrs to Abuja and 2045 hrs to Dakar on minimum turnaround. Virgin International flights and BA are currently scheduled to operate as normal.

We believe that the Government Security Forces (GSF) will have sufficient resources in place to maintain Law and Order during the Census and we have no information to suggest that there will be a change in the level of threat.

As soon as any further accurate information is made available to us we will pass it on additionally if any addressee is in possession of other accurate information please pass it back to us.
