Just as the kidnappers of Chief Lawrence Nwile, the father of the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, scaled their ransom demand down to N2 million from N70 million, an unknown militant group has threatened to use the Ramadan holiday to launch an armed attack on Port Harcourt.
These were coming on the heels of a peace concert organised by the Rivers State Peace and Rehabilitation committee in Port Harcourt on Thursday to mark the success of the peace campaign in the state.
Security sources informed the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday that they were getting close to the end of their plan to free the old man, who had been held hostage by some persons believed to be working on the orders of some politicians from Khana Local Government Area of the state.
However, the unnamed group which claimed to be a militant outfit threatened to use the Ramadan holiday to unleash an attack on the city of Port Harcourt.
Its grouse, it said in a text message it sent out to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, was the alleged Federal Governments failure to honour an agreement entered into earlier.
The group, in its message said it would take advantage of the holiday, when children would be at home, to attack the Joint Task Force in Port Harcourt.
