INEC to avoid elections in Akwa Ibom

THE Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom State has declared that there would be no registration of voters and general elections in communities that experience general insecurity and threat to peace.

The states Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prince Adedeji Soyebi who spoke at an election stakeholders’ forum organised by INEC said the commission would not like to lose valuable lives and materials to insecurity during next years polls.

Prince Soyebi said the commission was ready to organize a credible registration of voters exercise as well as free and fair elections in all the 329 wards across Akwa Ibom. “We are ready for the forth-coming review of voters register as well as the general elections coming up in April, next year. We shall ensure that we only conduct free and fair elections in this state, Soyebi vowed.

Governor Victor Attah who was represented by his Deputy, Sir. Michael Udofia said for next years elections to be successful and credible, voters in the state must make themselves available to officials charged with the responsibility of carrying out next months review of voters register.

Obong Attah while praising the activities of INEC to conduct free and fair elections next year said his administration will not relent in supporting the commission to achieve enviable results.
The theme of the stakeholders forum which was well-attended by politicians across the state was Free and Fair Elections in 2007.
