Five slain by gunmen in Plateau State, Nigeria

The police in Plateau State in North-Central zone of Nigeria have said that some gunmen have killed five persons and injured scores of others in a fresh attack in Plateau State.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Tyopev Mathias, who confirmed the killing on Thursday, 27 December 2018, said that the attack occurred on Wednesday, 26 December 2018.

He explained that the assailants opened fire on the young boys, who were returning from a festive celebration in Pugu, Rawuru village of Fan District, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, several others sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack while the gunmen fled the scene.

He noted that the incident followed a similar attack on Christmas Day at a hotel where three persons were reportedly killed.

Mathias said that the victims of the attack in Rawuru had been given a mass burial on Thursday morning and that the police had launched an investigation into the incident with a view to bringing the attackers to book.

It will be recalled that two months ago, gunmen killed five people, injured several others and razed houses in Nkiendoro village in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
