Election: Atiku Files Suit Tomorrow

Following the granting of his request by the Court of Appeal on Monday to inspect and make copies of electoral materials used by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), there are strong indications that Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC) will file his case tomorrow (Thursday) two working days before the deadline.

It was gathered that Atiku�s legal team is accelerating its efforts in order to ensure that all documents for the case will be ready by today against filing, tomorrow.

The reason the team is working round the clock is to beat the deadline. Atiku�s camp said it was afraid that the Federal Government may declare another public holidays on Friday and Monday as was the case in April.

�Atiku�s legal team is now at drafting stage of their work. We are now working day and night to ensure that they beat the deadline of Thursday they set for themselves for the filing of Atiku�s legal challenge to Yar� Adua�s widely disputed victory at the polls�.

It should be recalled that the Court of Appeal, Abuja division Monday granted requests by Vice President Atiku Abubakar and General Mohammadu Buhari (Retired) to inspect and make copies of the electoral materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the April 21 presidential election.
While filing their applications, Atiku and Buhari said the move was a necessary because they want to show to the whole world that the Yar�Adua�s victory is against the mandate of Nigerians.

When their separate applications were moved by their counsel, the INEC raised no objection to the two applications.

Mr. Rickey Tarfa SAN represented the Vice President while Mr. Val Ikeonu represented Buahri.
The panel led by Justice Rabiu Danlami Muhammad granted all the prayers sought in the two Application sand therefore the electoral body was ordered to make available material used for the elections to the applicants for inspection.
