The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday warned against acts that could lead to the non-conduct of the April general election.
Reaffirming its determination to ensure that the poll is conducted, the PDP said the Federal Government would regard anyone plotting against the general election as a coup plotter.
The Deputy National Chairman, (South), of the party, Chief Olabode George, stated the PDPs position while receiving 200 bicycles donated to the party by Henry and Henry Nigeria Limited in Abuja.
George, had referred to a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission by Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his party, the Action Congress, over the disqualification of the VP.
He said the PDP and the Federal Government would ensure that judicial process was not used to scuttle the election.
He said the PDP would mobilise Nigerians to resist any attempt to derail the transition programme.
George claimed that those working against the election were afraid of facing the electorate in a free and fair contest.
He assured the people that the PDP and the government would do everything possible to ensure that the poll was credible and violence-free.
George said, While we are working hard, selling our programmes to the electorate, others are running from one court to the other trying to derail the transition programme.
Those who work against the constitution of this country, in the parlance which is national, we call them coup plotters. Nigerians will never again accept that in this country.
I see this as the reaction of two university undergraduates. While one is sweating from September, preparing all his tutorials, reading through his lecture notes and getting ready for his examination, the lazy and unprepared one is busy running around the nightclubs drinking and smoking.
The examinations are here. We have a date with Nigerians and we will keep the date. And by the grace of God and the power of the people of this country, nobody will derail this election.
PDPs position is very clear. On April 14 and April 21, we will go to the poll. It will be free, fair and transparent. Nigerians are ready.
We want to tell the rest of the world that we have come of age; that the democratic practice has become entrenched in our day-to-day life.
Every four years, we have seen the beauty of going to the annual general meeting. And that annual general meeting is going back to report to the electorate how you have managed their resources.
Those who are not ready are the ones running around, groping in the dark, postulating all kinds of theories and using the judicial process. And we know that even the judiciary itself is very conscious of the fact that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.
