100 gunmen attack community in Lagos, loot property

The Fatoki community in the Igando area of Lagos State has been left deserted following an attack on the area by gunmen, Punch reports.

Numbering no fewer than 100, gunmen are alleged to have laid siege to the area, shooting three residents and looting shops and homes as they went along.

The hoodlums, suspected to be militants, are said to have stolen generators, televisions, laptops and refrigerators in their bid to cause mayhem.

Suspected on having entered the area through waterways, the gunmen have left the community traumatized, with many residents refusing to comment and locking their doors in fear of another attack.

A community leader has lamented the development, claiming that the attack took place over three days and that police officials only showed up on Wednesday when the robbers had already left the area.

The hoodlums have threatened to return to the area again, to rape women and kidnap members of the community.

SP Dolapo Badmos, PR Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the attack while reporting the arrest of two suspects connected to the attack.
