Yar’Adua Off To Saudi Arabia Today

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua will today depart Nigeria for Saudi Arabia on what the presidency said was a working visit to that country.

In a press statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, the presidency said the president’s visit was at the invitation of King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud.

This has confirmed LEADERSHIP’s exclusive lead story yesterday, whose headline was “Yar’Adua Travels To Saudi Arabia Again.”

Adeniyi said Yar’Adua would, during the visit, hold talks with King Abdullah, on various bilateral issues between the two countries.

“President Yar’Adua is scheduled to hold talks with King Abdullah in the course of the visit and participate as a special guest of honour in the opening of the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology,” he said.

The president, who is expected back to the country on Saturday, will also meet with leaders and members of the Nigerian community resident in that country.

Not long ago the president returned from Saudi Arabia, after undergoing medical check-up as well as performing the lesser Hajj (Umrah).

Note: We had a few comments and observations on YRD’s decision to travel to Saudi and his snub of US President Obama to do it. You can read them in yesterday’s Chief’s Briefs.
