Virgin Nigeria Airways is set to confront the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) over the decision of the FAAN to eject the airline from its current operational base.
There had been a running battle between the airline and FAAN management over the decision to relocate its operation to the new terminal (MMA2) at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport ((MMA) in Lagos.
The airline had questioned the rationale of the action and, as a result, instituted a legal battle to resist the order. In a release signed by the management of the airline, it said it received a letter signed by the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, on Monday to the effect that the airline should relocate its operations to the new terminal within seven days.
This action, according to the release, was subjudice, as according to the management, the matter was still receiving the attention of the court.
Virgin Nigeria wishes to confirm that we have received a letter signed by the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, advising that Virgin Nigeria Airways relocates all our domestic operations from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport to the MMA2 within the next seven days, the release said.
The management of the airline had hinged its refusal to obey the order on the fact that it was in aviation business just as the management of Bi-Courtney, managers of the MMA2 and as such, should not be coerced to invest in the terminal project since it was the government that gave it approval to operate from the MMA1 in the first instance.
