While five of them stationed themselves on the road, waiting to accost any intruder, the rest were said to have gone about the business of the day, dispossessing their victims of cash, wrist watches and handsets. An unspecified amount, being proceed realised from the days sales was said to have been carted away, with the bandits firing indiscriminately to ward off any opposition.
While they were at it, Anti-Robbery policemen from Man Centre division, in four unmarked commercial buses stormed the scene and reportedly started firing at the robbers from a short distance. Motorists avoided the area while people ran for dear lives.
The robbers according to eye witness, jumped into their operational vehicles and fled the scene, firing sporadically as they drove. Three out of about six persons that were hit by stray bullets from the fleeing robbers reportedly breathed their last before help could come while two are still in an intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.
