Three crew members of MV Seal Tide, including a Ukrainian citizen, are still held hostage by pirates.
“According to the latest information of Cameroon’s special service, the pirates demand ransom of UAH 2 million for the release of the hostages,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s reported referring to Ukraine’s Embassy in Gabon.
The Security Service of the Republic of Cameroon is investigating the case with the seizure of MV Seal Tide vessel.
The Ukrainian embassies in Gabon and Nigeria are taking every effort to facilitate the release of the Ukrainian sailor.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported on March 14 that the pirates released the MV Seal Tide vessel with a Ukrainian national aboard.
As reported, three Filipinos and a Ukrainian were kidnapped from an oil-services vessel on Saturday near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon. According to the preliminary information, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta was behind the seizure.
