SSS plans workshop to address kidnapping

Mr. Abdullahi Shinkafi, Imo Director, State Security Service, (SSS) yesterday said he had packaged a two-day workshop to address the incessant case of kidnapping in the state. Shinkafi, who made this known to newsmen in Owerri, said he was worried by the daily increase in the case of kidnapping.

He said stakeholders must come together in an organised forum to find a lasting solution to the menace. The security boss said the two-day workshop slated between Sept. 16 and Sept 17, was packa-ged to include all segments of the society. He said that hostage taking was on the increase in the state in recent months, and if not checked would have adverse effect on the populace and economy. “We have a lot of hostage taking and the workshop will help give positive solution to the problem,�� he said. Shinkafi said that resource persons had been drawn from the law enforcement agencies, acade-mia, students, traditional rulers and other stakeholders. Meanwhile, Governor Ikedi Ohakim has expressed displeasure on the rising trend of unrest and youth restiveness in communities of the state. Ohakim spoke at the inauguration of an administrative panel of inquiry into crisis in the autonomous communities in Owerri yester-day. According to him, the state is losing its cherished culture of peace and togetherness due to the infiltration and adoption of negative foreign cultures of extinction and brigandage. (NAN)
