Shell restarts Nigeria oil stations after protest

Royal Dutch Shell has resumed production of 47,000 barrels per day of oil output in Nigeria after a protest by villagers over contracts, a spokesman said on Thursday.

Villagers stormed four oil flow stations, including three operated by Shell, last week to press for contracts to supply speed boats and food to the facilities located deep in the swamps of Rivers State.

“Ekulama and Belema flow stations reopened yesterday, bringing back some 47,000 bpd of production,” a company spokesman said.

Chevron (CVX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) had already announced the reopening of its 15,000 bpd Robertkiri facility, which was closed by the same protest.

Protesters vacated the facilities earlier this week after issuing a three week ultimatum for the companies to deliver on promises to the community.
