The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, on Friday said the sack of 10,000 policemen by his command would not derail the security arrangements put in place for the April elections.
Ehindero gave the assurance in a chat with newsmen at the State House in Abuja after a meeting with President Olusegun Obasanjo. He explained that the dismissal of the affected police officers became necessary in view of their records.
According to him, most of those affected are officers with bad records, and others with adverse health conditions, as well as those whose service files contained false data.
Ehindero emphasised that the police had enough manpower to ensure security at all polling booths across the nation, explaining that sacking 10,000 policemen will not affect arrangements for the elections.
