Following increased security around banks in Lagos State, robbers are now targeting foreign missions, especially embassies even as two have been attacked, with undisclosed amount of money and other valuables carted away.
Nigeria Tribune investigation on Wednesday showed that armed hoodlums recently swooped on the United States Consular Generals official residence at No. 1 Ibironke Avenue, in the highbrow Park View area of Ikoyi.
The Consular General, according to police sources, said the roobers allegedly came at about 9.30 p.m.
The source added that the hoodlums, who forcefully gained entry into the compound, shot a security guard on duty in the leg after which they ransacked the house for almost one hour and made away with handsets and other items.
According to the source, unspecified amount of US dollars, computer lap tops, digital cameras, among other personal effects of the entire household, were also stolen.
In a related development, barely a few days after suspected armed bandits, believed to be same group that had earlier attacked the US Consular Generals residence, also invaded the Kenyan Embassy at No. 52 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, and carted away about 10,000 and property valued at several millions of naira.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the robbery gang, numbering about 15, on arrival at the Kenyan Embassy, also overwhelmed and injured the mobile policeman on duty identified as Adesoji, and made straight for the inner chambers of the embassy and stole hard currencies and other valuable items.
It was, however, learnt that soon after the incidences, the police, in in conjunction with the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad at Lagos Island arrested the suspects.
