Rivers Woos Militants With N1m Each

Cultists, militants and other arms bearers in Rivers State are to receive the N1 million each if they renounce criminal activities.

The chairman of Peace and Rehabilitation Committee in Rivers State, Hassan Tam Douglas, made this public, while speaking with the leader of the Bush Boys of Okrika, Sunny Opuambe, in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Douglas hinted that the state government has made some money available to rehabilitate the first 100 people, who are ready to turn a new lease of life by surrendering their arms to government.

The financial package, according to Douglas, is to encourage those who are willing to live good life so that they could have a good financial base to start with. Responding, Opuambe said members of his group are prepared to partner with the state government to put an end to hostilities and other criminal activities in the state.

He called on government to be focused and be fair to all manners of people in the state. Opuambe advised the state government not to threat anyone genuinely willing to turn a new leaf as a criminal.
