AN international oil and gas conference center is to be constructed in Rivers State by the state government.
This was made known yesterday by the state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Magnus Abe while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state cabinet meeting.
The meeting which also looked at the 2007 budget that is to be presented to the House of Assembly on Friday approved the release of 3.4 billion to contractors handling the Trans Kalabari High way even as he spoke of resolve by the administration to ensure the project is completed
N3 billion he said was also released to the contractor handling the Unity Road, in keeping with the determination to ensure that the Andoni/Opobo people drive their vehicles home before the end of the year.
Said he, �Council has approved that a special dedicated account will be brought in to support and ensure that our children that have been sent out of the country on special scholarship schemes are fully funded to ensure that their fees and upkeep up to the completion of their courses are totally paid up�.
On the Air force Base runway, he said the state government had completed the resurfacing and the place would soon be opened for domestic commercial flight operations. Already, according to him, some private airlines had applied to begin to use the place. He said runway lights would be installed by the state government in the place very soon
In a similar vein, the Trailer Park at Iriebe, along the PH-Aba Expressway is to be reactivated by the State Government and the Ministry of Transport has been mandated to ensure that the Park is put into use to check indiscriminate parking of these trucks and discourage them from driving into town.
The Commissioner hinted that the Council reviewed the political situation in the state, and cautioned all those who are interested in seeking elective positions under any Political Party, to desist from employing violent means in their pursuit, but to engage in such exercise within the ambit of the law.
He warned that anybody who applied any form of violent approach would be dealt with according to the law and reiterated the State Governor�s charge that power belongs to God.
Mr. Abe, equally said the State Executive Council congratulated Dolphin Football Club for winning the 2006 FA Cup, and urged Rivers people to come out en mass to receive the team tomorrow at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Center, Port Harcourt for a reception by the State Government.
