A traditional ruler of Akpo Kingdom in Ikwerre area of Rivers State, Eze Badumeru Onwuna Oriebe, was Saturday shot dead at his residence in Ozuoba.
Details of the killing at press time were hazy but community sources said the traditional ruler played host to a visitor in the morning before the sad incident. Nobody seemed to recall who the guest was. They could also not say if the guest was the killer. But the sources said they were sure the deceased was shot by just one assailant.
When contacted on phone for comment, the state police public relations officer, Mrs. Rita Inoma Abbey, confirmed the murder and said three persons had been arrested in connection with it, adding that investigation was in top gear to track down those behind the incident.
She said those arrested were natives. Meanwhile, sympathizers continued to troop to the residence of the monarch yesterday. People were seen in groups discussing the development.
