The Government of Rivers State, yesterday, issued a White Paper on the recommendations of the State Truth and Reconciliation Commission headed by Justice Kayode Eso.
Among other things, the White Paper ordered the investigation of ex-Governor Peter Odili and former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo for their alleged role in the crisis that rocked the state and led to loss of several lives.
A fresh judicial commission of inquiry would also be set up based on the recommendations of the Commission to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the duo of late Chief Marshal Harry, of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, and Chief Gospel Bilogbolo.
Waterfronts would also be demolished by the government and security further be beefed up in the state to guarantee lives and properties. According to the White Paper, government would go ahead to implement the White Paper on the Justice Charles Granville Commission of Inquiry in Onne/Eleme, Ogu and Ele crisis.
To resolve chieftaincy crisis in the state, the government would implement recommendations of the Commission which called on the Chieftaincy Resolution Council to bring to the notice of monarchs, the provisions of the Chiefs Law Cap, 25, Laws of Rivers State and to understand that they are bound and could be punished based on the law.
It also adopted the recommendation to set up a judicial Commission of Inquiry on the Bonny crisis and to bring the Amanyanbo of the area to respect the laws of the land.
Based on the recommendation, according to the White Paper, amnesty would be granted to Onwuchekwa Chukwudi.
Also according to the state government, it would act on recommendation of the Commission to punish those involved in illegal oil bunkering and those who wrongly possess firearms
It would be recalled that the Eso Commission as it was later known, was set up in the state to find lasting peace in the state.
