A rampaging lion has killed two persons and 30 livestock in Nigeria’s northern state of Yobe, the local media reported Tuesday,
The report said the lion, which apparently escaped from the Yankari Games Reserve in neighbouring Bauchi state, attacked and killed the people and the animals in the Gulani council area of the state.
It quoted the State Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Wakil Sarki, as saying in the state capital, Damaturu, that local hunters had been mobilized to search for and kill the errant lion.
‘The matter was reported to us yesterday (Monday) after the animal had killed two people and 30 animals in villages in Gulani Local Government Area,’ the Commissioner said.
‘We are suspecting that it is now between the border areas of Gulani and Gujba Local Government Areas, we will also solicit for the services of the Joint Task Force on Security to help us scout for the lion. We hope to capture the animal before the end of today (Tuesday),’ he added.
