Presidential race kicks off

President Goodluck Jonathan who is contesting for the presidency under the Peoples Democratic Party PDP kicked off his campaign in Lafia, the capital of the North Central Nigerian state of Nasarawa.

There are other presidential candidates in opposition political parties and many will soon start formal campaign in earnest.

The campaign posters pasted at bus stops and other strategic locations within Abuja city is indicative of the active and competitive political environment.
But experts have insisted that politicians should learn how to play the game by the rules.

But about two months to Nigeria’s general elections in April, ex-parte motions on the just concluded primaries by political parties are a source of concern to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

Experts say ex-parte motions should be given by the court with discretion because the situation could be damaging to the forth coming general elections.
Nigeria’s past electoral processes have been marred by fraud and irregularities resulting in prolonged litigation in the elections of 2003 and 2007.
