President visits Yar’Adua’s family home

President Goodluck Jonathan Saturday visited the home town of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua in northern Katsina state to condole with his family members.

The President, who was accompanied by First Lady Patience, was received on arrival at the Katsina airport by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, seven state governors and ministers, the official News Agency of Nigeria reported.

President Jonathan did not attend Thursday’s burial ceremony of the late President, who died Wednesday at the presidential villa in the capital city of Abuja after a protracted illness.

Local newspapers speculated Friday that ‘unfavourable security reports’ prevented the President from attending the burial in Katsina, without elaborating.

Jonathan, who acted as President while Yar’Adua was indisposed, was sworn into office as substantive President Thursday morning.

Nigeria is in the third of a seven-day mourning period declared by President Jon athan.
