THE Port Harcourt International Airport is yet to commence full flight operations, four months after the entry point was inaugurated, the Nigerian Tribune can reveal.
The airport was inaugurated on December 24, 2007, while the first flight touched down on its runway three days after, after it was closed down for repairs in August 2006.
The airport was handling both domestic and international flights before it was closed down for operations as a result of serious depletion in its facilities.
Barely four months after the inauguration of works on the airport, the gateway, as at press time, was yet to start handling international flights, while domestic operations were still reduced to about 20 landings a day.
As at the time the Nigerian Tribune visited the airport, only day light operations could be handled while work was already on to fix the runway light to make daylight and night flights possible.
Manager of the airport, Mr. Godknows Ikwuzor, however, told the Nigerian Tribune that efforts were being intensified to ensure that the airport came back to its normal form in due time.
According to him, the focus of his management was to ensure that the airport was made fit to handle both domestic and international flights as soon as possible.
