Police begins daily copter patrol in Lagos, Abuja

The Police has begun daily helicopters patrol in Lagos and Abuja to ensure crime-free Sallah and Christmas celebration.

Police Spokesman, ACP Akpoebi, told Daily Trust in an interview that the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, after a meeting with top police officers, ordered that two helicopters at the force headquarters be used for the daily patrol.

He said the patrol had already commenced patrol in Abuja, adding that it will continue till December while the Patrol in Lagos will start soon.

“If the FCT authorities redeemed their pledge to donate a brand new helicopter to Police the patrol will continue even after the celebrations,” the spokesman said. He stressed that the idea behind the patrol was to enhance the work of the policemen on the ground in checking the movement of criminals.

Worried by the incessant cases of car theft, he said that the West African Police Chiefs Committee has trained officers from the sub-region to sensitize them on new techniques for investigation and identifying stolen vehicles in the region.

ACP Akpoebi said that the training gave the officers the opportunity to interact and share experience with their colleagues in the region.
