The police in Lagos on Friday arrested a 45-year-old man, Sunday Taiwo, with six decomposing human heads and male genitals.
The police also arrested another man, Abayomi Simeon, with 13 bags Indian hemp and 20 pieces of electronic gadget including televisions, handsets and CD players. Both men were arrested at different times by police patrols in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Saturday Punch learnt that Taiwo was arrested on Friday morning at 6.30am by a police anti-robbery squad from Olosa Police Division, Mushin. The strange items were allegedly discovered when the bag that he had with him was checked.
Simeon was, however, arrested by policemen in Rapid Response Squad patrol vehicles 052 and 062, when they raided a suspected criminal hideout in Mushin.
Taiwo said he was a contractor and not a ritualist as the police claimed. He said that he got the human parts at Matori Cemetery for people whose identity he declined to reveal, adding that he had been in the business for the past five years.
He also said he opted for the human parts trade after he lost his job as security guard at the same cemetery. When Saturday Punch visited the police station at Mushin, a large mob that had gathered at the place was seen demanding that the suspect be released to them for instant judgement.
On the other hand, Simeon said he was just an Indian hemp smoker and not a dealer. He said he left his Oke Odo residence to smoke and have a nice time at Mushin before his arrest.
The spokesman of the Lagos State police command, Mr. Frank Mba, who confirmed the arrests, said both suspects would soon be charged to court.
