Police Arrest Expatriate Hostage Takers

The Police in Rivers State have announced the arrest and subsequent detention of six persons alleged to be the brain behind kidnapping of expatriate workers in in the Niger Delta region especially Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
The police which claimed the gang were arrested in Ogbakri and Port Harcourt, added that preliminary investigations have shown that they were responsible for the kidnap of six oil workers from a restaurant on Abacha road, Port Harcourt recently and that carried out in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.
Addressing newsmen at police Headquarters in Port Harcourt yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bassey Inyang said they were deep in the plan to carry out another kidnap when the police swooped on them.
“The culprits who carried out the kidnap about two months ago at Good Fellas Night Club are the same suspects responsible for the kidnap at Eket. They were actually planning to carry out another operation when the information got to the police and all of them were picked within the metropolis and at Ogbakiri”, he claimed.
Inyang listed items allegedly recovered from the gang as automatic pistol, Ak 47 gun and 122 live ammunitions. Those were in addition to two Mercedes Benz 190 cars and military gears suspected to have been used to carry out their operations.
He gave the names of the suspects as 32 year old Richard Okoye, Prince Jihad Amachree, 26, aka “General Adekunle and Commander of Ijaw Youths Congress militants”, dismissed Lance Corporal Gambo Ibrahim, 31, a serving army Lance Corporal Kelechi Egonte, attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Corps Lagos, Augustine Aboh, 29 and Ejike Onyeukwu, aka Sir K, 25..
He further disclosed that his men arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang, in Port Harcourt after they dispossesed a woman of bulk GSM recharge cards, handset and cash valued at N1.1m.
Inyang narrated how Moses John, Ubong Anthony and Kingsley Akpan, robbed their victim on October 17, 2006 along new Air force Road in Port Harcourt at gun point before lu8ck ran out on them and they werer apprehended
