As if the shame of an early elimination from the 2010 World Cup is not enough, Nigerian officials are now fretting over the 1.9 billion naira (about US$120 million) that was raised by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) for the Super Eagles campaign.
According to an online website, mtnfootball.com, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials are wondering what has happened to the money, since they claimed to have received only 300 million naira from the committee, set up to ensure the Nigerian team qualifies for and does well at the first World Cup to be held in Africa.
The PTF, headed by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of southern Rivers state, has been responsible for paying the over US$300,000 per month salary of the Eagles’ foreign coach Lars Lagerback.
It has also contributed to paying the match allowances for the Super Eagles
