The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) has warned that it will soon stop supplying petroleum products to Abuja and its environs as a result of what it described as insensitivity of the federal government to its demands.
NUPENG had given the Federal Government 21 days ultimatum which began Monday, July 12, 2010 to address the dilapidated state of federal roads in the country and the anti-labour practices by oil majors or face the withdrawal of its members from supplying fuel to Abuja.
National president of NUPENG, Comrade Igwe Achese, in a telephone chat with LEADERSHIP said there was no going back on the decision of NUPENG after the expiration of the ultimatum given, because the federal government had not been paying attention to issues affecting common Nigerians.
Igwe described Nigerian roads as death traps, saying that NUPENG, which is a stakeholder in the petroleum industry lost most of its members on the bad roads as they transported petroleum products across the country.
“We the NUPENG members are also stakeholders in oil and gas industry, we take the risk of transporting these products to all the nooks and crannies of this country. Unfortunately, during our movements, we lose most of our members as a result of the bad roads.
