NITEL management yesterday in Abuja, appealed to its striking workers to reconsider their current strike, especially the shutting down of the SAT-3 network cable.
This was contained in a statement signed by Deputy General Manager (Communi-cations), Malam Sule Shehu, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The statement said the SAT-3 network cable served as the main revenue source for the company and an important international communications gateway. It said the shutting of the cable would lead to reduction in revenue accruing to NITEL and result in further backlog of salary arrears, as well as difficulties for businesses and consumers in Nigeria.
The worker embarked on strike on Tuesday, to protest non-payment of their accumulated salary arrears.
The statement quoted management as assuring the strikingworkers that the Federal Government and Transcorp were working toward proper funding of NITEL operations.
