Minimum wage: It’s N52,200 or nothing – Labour

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have insisted on the N52,200 minimum wage as proposed by the NLC to the Federal Government.

Besides, the unions tasked the Federal Government to commence the implementation of the N52,200 immediately, adding that this was the time Nigerian workers needed it mostly.

The SSANU and the NLC renewed their position at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of SSANU, held at the weekend at the Benue State University, Makurdi.

In a communiqué after the meeting, SSANU NEC-in-session considered the issue of the national minimum wage and noted that Nigerian workers had been financially traumatised, saying that the take-home pay of an average worker could not take him home.

It said “this situation is particularly worsened by the present global economic meltdown. Therefore, NEC-in-session agreed that if there was any time the Nigerian workers need salary increment, it is now.”
