Militants demand for more states in Niger Delta

Militants in the Niger Delta are demanding for the creation of two additional states for the region.

This is just as they warned the Federal Government to be wary of those working for the collapse of the ongoing peace process.

An amalgam of some armed organisations in the region, the Joint Revolutionary Council, in a statement sent online by its leader and spokesperson, Cynthia Whyte, on Monday, said the development of the region would be faster with the creation of the two additional states.

The body, citing the example of the creation of Bayelsa State from the old Rivers State, said that though the state could have done better in terms of development, it could not have seen so much as part of Rivers.

The addintional states, according to them, would help to address unfair distribution of political power and engender peace and harmony in the region.

These states must be created immediately to enable our people access development and prosperity in good time. The creation of Bayelsa State and the consequent developments it has enjoyed however stunted should serve as good motivators to those that lord over the Nigerian state and define the processes that govern state creation, it said.
