Militants condemn OBJ – Warn of more attacks

Militants in the Niger Delta have condemned President Olusegun Obasanjos utterances on the controversial elections and registered their decision to reject the results by planning attacks in the oil region. Its unfortunate that President Obasanjo would publicly agree that the elections were successful, the militants stated, adding that this acceptance on his part shows the level of moral and ethical decay that Obasanjos government has fallen into.
They have therefore sent out warning of planned attacks in protest of the massive irregularities and complaints that they said, have trailed the conduct and outcome of the general elections.
Warning of more attacks was given by the Niger-Delta Enterprise Initiative in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday, entitled An alert notice to the Nigeria state.
Giving insight into the planned attacks, Project co-coordinator and secretary of the group respectively, Mr. T. Alalibo and Mr. Austin Wopara said plans for the attacks have reached advanced stage.
The duo disclosed that the attacks will occur mainly in Rivers state and other states in the oil-rich region where the elections were manipulated and the people disenfranchised.
According to the leaders of the militants, While we recognize that the elections were a big disappoi-ntment and a disgrace to all people, we cannot help to condemn the degree of violence that this incidence may come with.
The body called for the immediate and unconditional release of detained militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, by the federal government.
The continued detention of Do-kubo-Asari, the statement said, agg-ravates the violence in the region and blocks avenues for dialogue between government and the militants.
Alluding to the attack on the Bayelsa State Government House on the eve of the presidential elections, the group said, We believe that the worst is yet to come.
The increasing availability of lethal arms and weaponry in the Niger-Delta region is not a sign of good tidings.
