MEND hails Agip pipeline attack

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has commended the youths behind the Agip pipeline attack which occurred in Okuntun in Burutu council area of oil rich Delta state on Friday.

”Although MEND is not involved in this attack in any way, we still support such actions from communities that watch their wealth flow away from right under their nose without anything to show for it,” the militant group said in a statement e-mailed to the media on Sunday.

”MEND will surely partner with such youths and communities in the execution of future attacks by providing training and more powerful explosives after the ceasefire is called off,” it added.

The Nigerian oil region’s largest militant group has warned it will call off its unilateral ceasefire, declared in September, and renewed its ‘oil war’ if the government fails to allow its incarcerated leader (Henry Okah) to seek medical treatment abroad.

MEND launched the ‘oil war’ 14 September, a day after the military launched a massive aerial assault on its camps in Rivers state.
