BARELY one month that the acting State PoliceCommissioner, Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho addressed the press and raised alarm over the activities of kidnappers and the subsequent rescuing of a final year student of Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka for a N20m ransom, the dare-devil kidnappers have struck again.
This time around a mother and a daughter were allegedly kidnapped within the NITEL neighbourhood in Asaba, weekend. They were picked from the front of their house at about 7pm.
The latest kidnap caused a lot of stir as residents are now gripped with fears.
A resident in the area who joined the search party told Vanguard that �the fortunate thing was that the kidnappers after moving the mother and daughter to unknown building awaiting to be evacuated to some where in Anambra, the alarm was raised and the kidnappers fled with their waiting vehicle�.
Contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka, feigned ignorance about the latest kidnap saying �I have called the two DPOs in charge of Asaba and they said they were not aware. The case was not reported�, he stated.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Asaba Community Policingnow known as Asaba Vigilante, Chief Cassidy Nduka Ilobahas resigned. In a letter of resignation signed by him, Iloba said that �I have for a period of three years that is from 2005 to 2008 being able to restore hope to the public and the entire people of Delta State through a drastic curtailment of crime rate�, adding that �I have expended energy, time and personal finance to ensure that the vigilante team were on their feet and active�.
He however pledged his commitment towards thedevelopment of Delta state and �I do hope that thegood name, courage, fore and hindsight which thevigilante has built over the years will keep on flying�.
