Fear has gripped the various militant camps in the Niger Delta following a fresh offensive by the Joint Task Force, Operation Restore Hope.
It was gathered that the JTF had mapped out plans to take on the militants’ camps one after the other in order to dislodge the warlords and restore law and order in the coastal oil locations in the region.
Our correspondent found that no fewer than 10 outlawed camps had been raided by the troops, especially in the coastal areas of Bayelsa, Delta and River States in the past two weeks.
A reliable source in the security outfit told our correspondent on Sunday that the military operation was a continuous exercise until sanity returned to the nooks and crannies of the region, particularly the riverside oil-producing areas..
Meanwhile, operatives from the Rivers State Police Command on Sunday rescued a two-year-old baby, Miss Angela Ogwula, and a Scot, who were abducted during separate attacks in Port Harcourt by gunmen.
While the toddler was kidnapped on Sunday, April 19, the Scot was taken away exactly three weeks ago, after being shot on the leg.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Hassan, made these known to our correspondent in Port Harcourt.
