JTF invasion: Bayelsa Assembly asks FG to rebuild Agge community

Irked by the recent invasion of Agge community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by operatives of the Joint Military Taskforce (JTF), the House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government to rebuild the coastal settlement without delay.

This followed a deliberation on the report of the five-man ad-hoc committee set up by the house to investigate the military invasion of the community about a month ago.
The committee was constituted in August to investigate the allegation of military attack, destruction and killing of innocent indigenes of the area under the guise of searching for militants that attacked a military formation in neighbouring Bomadi, Delta State.

Presenting the report at the weekend, Ruby Benjamin (representing Brass constituency III), on behalf of other members of the committee, submitted that they were shocked by the level of destruction in the community, and made three recommendations for the House to deliberate on and adopt.

Leadership of the House had dropped two of the submissions, but resolved that the state and federal government should, with immediate effect, rebuild the community.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the house, Werinipre Seibarugu, has commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for responding quickly to the plight of the community by making relief materials available to affected indigenes.

On the alleged plan by members of the house to impeach an unnamed member of the Governor Sylva’s administration, as reported in a weekly magazine, Seibarugu declared that such claim was malicious and targeted at rubbishing the good efforts of the house.

“We don’t have any plan to impeach anybody,” he noted.
