JTF decries Bonny residents attitude

THE Joint Task Force in Rivers State have decried what they termed the poor attitude of people of Bonny to the ongoing security challenge in the state.
Army PRO and spokesman of the security body in the state, lieutenant Col Sagir Musa said they had confirmed that the miscreants who caused mayhem in Bonny Monday night held a meeting in the town ahead of the invasion. He wondered why residents of the area who knew failed to alert security operatives in the area of the development.

He said the people of the area should realise that security is a shared responsibility. The people should not be docile in this regard.

Continuing, he said another shocking thing residents of the area did was that during the encounter the JTF had with the boys they (boys) were seen running into peoples houses. And when soldiers went to these houses to look for the boys they never had any cooperation.

He urged people of Bonny and the state in general to cooperate with security operatives to achieve result in the war against miscreants in the state.

Meanwhile, as at press time Sagir said the head of the JTF and his Navy counterpart in the state were on their way to Bonny for on the spot assessment of the situation.

In a related development, gun men held people of Ikwerre street to ransom yesterday when they stormed a shop in the area where they allegedly carted away several thousands of naira. According to an eye witness the men fired sporadically to wade off intruders.
